PlateDate is a premier online personal chef service that makes hiring a personal chef easy and fun! You can build your menu, book your reservation and pay for your reservation all in just a few simple clicks! On the day of your service, one of our elite chefs will arrive at your door to prepare a culinary masterpiece for you and your guests.

We take pride in delivering great customer service. Whether you need to make a last-minute change to your reservation or would like suggestions for wine pairings, we’ll do everything we can to make sure you and your guests are happy (and full)!

How it Works!

How It Works


Do I need a fancy kitchen to hire a personal chef?
Not at all! Gourmet kitchens are nice, but a working stove, oven and clean, reasonable work space are really all we require.

What about pots and pans ? Do I supply those?
Our chefs provide their own ingredients and seasonings, but we do ask that you allow them to use your cookware. No need to worry about the mess. Our chefs will always clean their mess before they leave your home!

The chefs will clean my entire kitchen?
The chef will clean up his or her mess and load your dishwasher before leaving your home. Basically, your kitchen will be just as clean (if not cleaner) as it was before the chef arrived.

Do I supply my own silverware, dinnerware, etc.?
A PlateDate is a perfect opportunity for you to dust off your fine china or show off that tablecloth you got over the holidays! However, if you don’t have your own dinnerware or decor, we can provide everything you need here!

I don’t see what I want on the menu. Can I customize my meal?
You bet! Remember, we’re always updating our menus, but if you want something we currently do not offer, just let us know here and we’ll make it happen!

I have food allergies. How do I relay this to my chef?
Your dietary needs are very important to us. Before you complete your reservation, please note in the Special Instructions box any food allergies or specific instructions for the chef. He or she will have this information prior to the day of your service.

How much time does the chef need to prepare a meal?
Most bookings will require between one to two hours of prep time. More time may be needed for larger parties. A customer service representative will notify you beforehand.

How much notice do you need to book a personal chef?
We require a minimum 96-hours notice for all personal chef services.

Is gratuity included in the price?
Gratuity is not included in the price. We recommend you tip your chef 18-20% of your total bill. For larger parties, gratuity is automatically added to your bill.

Are there additional fees for travel, shopping, etc?
No, we do not charge additional fees for grocery shopping, travel or cleanup.

What if I have to cancel or postpone my event?
We require a minimum 48-hours notice for all cancellations. If you cancel your PlateDate within 48-hours, you will receive a full refund minus a 20% cancellation fee. If you would like to postpone your event, you will receive a company credit, which can be applied to a future purchase. More details about our cancellation policy can be found here.

Do you offer gift cards?
Yes! Gift cards must be purchased by phone at (888) 518-7709. Gift cards can be purchased for any dollar amount at a minimum of $250. We can mail the card directly to you or to the recipient – and even include a personal message! All gift cards purchased on or after November 1, 2015 will expire one (1) year from the date of purchase.

What areas do you serve?
We currently serve Washington, DC, Philadelphia and surrounding areas. We will be expanding to other U.S. cities soon! If you’d like us to serve your area, let us know!
Can I make a PlateDate for any day, any time?
We now offer service 7 days a week! You can book a reservation from 5pm-9m Monday through Thursday, and from 11am to 9pm Saturday and Sunday! 

Do you offer service on holidays?
Yes, we offer limited services on holidays!

Is there a minimum/maximum number of people you serve?
We do not require a minimum number of guests, however, there is a $250 minimum for all reservations. We typically serve two to 25 guests, but we will accommodate any party size!

Any tips I can use to prepare for my PlateDate?
If you’re planning a romantic dinner, add candles or your sweetie’s favorite wine. Dinner party or brunch? Fresh flowers and signature cocktails always add a special touch! Remember, the goal is to have fun and make your personal chef experience… personal! We can help you with the décor and other items here!
